At the movie mike gets really sick and runs out of the movie and ends up throwing up. the next day Bella waits for Jacob to call her but he never does. She calls his house but Billy says he is sick and cant talk at the moment. the next morning, Bella wakes up on the bathroom floor, she recieved the flu as well as the boys. finally she is told that Jacob has mono and cant be visited for awhile. this hurts Bella because he is the one to brighten her days and the one she loves ( although she will always really love Edward). so Bella decides to go hiking. not obeying Charlies rules. As she is in the woods she runs into Laurent( another vampire), and he tells her that he is on a mission to end victoria to kill her. She then starts hearing Edwards voice and he is telling her what to do. in seconds a pack a wolfes show up and scare laurent away. she escapes quickly and is luckily alive. she doesnt know how that all happened but she needs to stop going hiking and listen to Charlie. i think that Bella is really going to start missing Edward right now since she has now nothing else to taake her mind of him

Bella and Jacob have been visiting each other a ton. She starts hearing Edwards voice from now and then, telling her what to do. this is strange to her but she likes to here it, knowing she is still there. so the next day, since the bikes are finally done, Bella and jacob decide to take the bikes up to a path to ride them. Jacob tries explaining everything to Bella but she struggles stay up on the bikeand falls a few times. But one time she managed to stay upright but when she went around the corner she flew off the bike and had to go to the hospital. The next day was valentines day. Bella becomes less miserable day by day. but she also stops hearing Edwards voice, which hurts her. She invites Jacob to go to a movie, a group movie with all her friends. but at the end it ewnds up only being Bella, Jacob and Mike. Both of the boys tried to make moves on her during the movie but she didnt let it happen. I think Bella is finally getting over Edward and is getting all her friends back but is slowly going to start missing Edward again.

Bella's mood has changed completely, ever since Edward and his family have been gone she hasnt been the same. this lasted a very long time when her dad told her that she needed some help. this is exactly what Bella did not want to hear from her dad but she took his advice and invited jessica to go to a movie with her, which made jessica really surprised because she hadnt talked to Bella in awhile. they saw a movie about zombies because Bella didnt want to see anything that had to do the romance. while they were at the movie, bella kept on having to get up because Edward was on her mind. After the movie, they walked to McDonalds but Bella saw a group of guys in the bar across the street. they seemed really familiar to her and she left Jessica to see them. it ened up she did not know then and Bella was being really suspicious and on Jessicas nerves. they didnt speak at all on the car ride home. The next day, Charlie was a lot happier because Bella told him she was going to visit her friend Jacob Black. Jacob is a family friend from La Push. She brought some bikes she got for free there so jacob could fix them and they could ride them together. Bella and Jacob became really close. Hopefully Bella will get better and will get some of her friends back.

new moon- blog 1

For outside reading this Quarter, i am reading the book New Moon by Staphanie Meyer. When the book begins, Bella is in a bad mood because of a dream she had. It was her Eighteenth birthday, and now she was older than Edward which made her unhappy. for her birthday she wanted no presents, she went to the cullens house that night which ended in a disaster. Bella got injured and made to get stitches. The next day at school something seemed wrong withEdward, Alice and Jasper had left and were not coming back for awhile. Later that day at Bellas, Edward decides they should go on a walk when he tells her that his family is leaving for good and will not be coming back. Bella asked if she could come with and Edward told no. So far the book has been kinda depressing but i am exicted to keep reading to find out what happens.

Everyone has to overcome odds at some point in their life to move forward. In Stephanie Meyer's, a book from Eclipse, the main characters overcome more than their share of odds. First of all, Edward Cullen, the vampire whose in love with a mortal, has to overcome the day by day battle of his instinct temptations to suck his girlfriends blood. The two cannot kiss, hug, or even be in close proximity to each other without the risk of Edward losing control. Another issue the two have to constantly overcome is their differing opinions on the issue of Bella transforming into a vampire and also her friendship with Jacob, a young werewolf. Edward, on one hand, cannot stand the thought of separating Bella from her soul just so that he can live forever with her, and he also disapproves of her intermingling with his born enemy, the werewolf clan. He believes that Bella is in danger every second she spends with her werewolf friends because they have very little control over where and when they transform into ferocious monsters capable of killing almost anything. However, in truth it is almost the same amount of risk for Bella to be spending time around blood thirsty vampires, than a clan of uncontrolled werewolves.

Throughout the entertainment industry the line between gay and "bromance" comes almost similar in acting scenarios. In the upcoming movie "I Love You, Man"Paul Rudd and Jason Segel take their bromance to a new level where Paul needs a new best man for his wedding and Jason's relationship with his fiancee is threatened by going on to many "man-dates". Throughout the comedy these incredible actors come as close to the gay act as possible making it as uncomfortable for themselves as for the people watching them act. They have had many experiences in other films and TV shows where getting close to a male counterpart was just part of the job. "Don't call it a bromance. We hate that word." is what the actors commonly express to people while proclaiming their sexuality as 100% straight. Although they both agree that in these roles its made them realize the greatness of having someone to talk to about male issues and to people who aren't necessarily women. This movie "I Love You, Man" comes out in theaters this Friday.

4 American soldiers were killed in the Iraq War just in today. The cause was a roadside bombing in one of the worst of several attacks on the United States troops. The attack was initiated by the Taliban who have increased their threats against outside forces exclaiming they'll use more force if they have to to remove outside threats. As well as this incident, just days before a suicide bomber attacked on a roadside bombing outside a high school. This attack killed 2 Afghan citizens and wounded many other bystanders. The wounded consisted of merchant workers who own shops on the street this occurred. One worker exclaimed how they were working and all of a sudden heard a huge explosion. When they looked outside they saw three family members lying on the streets with blood pouring out of them. As days go on the war in Iraq continues as the longest wars ever with multiple deaths and casualties that leave people questioning if the war was a good thing after all.

In France, there is a wall called the Wall of the Disappeared with names of Pied Noirs on it. The Pied Noirs were French colonists who were located in Algeria, Africa. After France was ruled by Charles de Gaulle, millions of pied noirs were murdered or were forced to flee to neighboring cities to try to stay alive. These people wanted rights among Africa and colonized in its colonies to promote these colonies fully developing. A series of wars occurred because of the French goverment not supporting the citizens of france helping the Algerians. This led to thousands of deaths which are now displayed on the Wall of the Disappeared.

Throughout the world, a cut back in jobs is leaving the world in a major economic crisis. Although, job experts say that you should ignore the news about job loss and continue to find a job because there are 1000s out there. They advise the unemployed to look into jobs that are in the stable industry meaning any in the education, health care and government genres. On the contrary, jobs such as construction, banking and manufacturing could be more risky and leave you with a less likely chance of having a long term job. One suggestion is to move to the south. The south is overflowing with jobs because of the health care industry of the old people who move there. The upper midwest such as New York are the worst places to look because thousands of manufacturing jobs have been lost and it has an extremely high unemployment rate. Not only does this occur in the U.S. but other countries are dealing with unemployment as well.

On CNN I read a commentary about Valentine's Day and the stupidity of it. First of all, he states how the holiday really has no meaning it is just a commercial holiday so retailers can make money. Prices skyrocket and advertisers spend huge sums of money to advertise their products to men and women looking to buy their loved ones gifts. Roland exclaims how that how is buying a gift or sending someone flowers on a different day makes it any less special than if it was sent on Valentine's Day. With the suffering economy, spending money on Valentine's Day is an act of stupidity according to Martin and says that this is not the way to bring up the screwed up economic structure of the U.S. This day is seen as an excuse to take your loved one out to dinner or buy them something that shows you appreciate them when really this should occur normally throughout the year. According to Roland, Valentine's Day is a worthless holiday just to increase profits of vendors which in a way I somewhat agree with.

I read an article on cnn.com about Slumdog Millionaire and how it was originally seen to be a total box office flop, it magically ended up with 8 Oscars. With it's success led to people questioning if Bollywood movies will start to become even more popular in the United States then they already are. Even though its not 100% Bollywood there are numerous aspects of Bollywood found in the film that keep it more on the traditional Indian side rather than American life. Many indian actors/actresses have made their way to Hollywood such as Aishwarya Rai who was featured in Bride and Prejudice which we just recently watched in class. The idea of Bollywood completely moving to Hollywood is a little unreasonable figuring one of their main beliefs is no kissing. This tends to throw off audiences and it decreases their interest in these types of movies.

I read an article in the newyork times about St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Connecticut pastored by Stephen DiGiovanni brought back the idea of confession booths. When DiGiovanni first entered the church, confessions were told in reconcilation rooms. These rooms were face to face confrontations between a member of the church and a priest. Many people thought that this was awkward and embarrassing and many either rarely did them or refused to do them in general. With the reintroduction of confession booths, about 450 people a week confess their sins to priests using this new way to confess sins. Sin confessing is available in 5 different languages: English, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and French. St. John's church is trying to promote other churches to do the same so that people can more openly confess their wrongs they have committed. Some ways in which they are spreading the word is highway billboards, radio commercials and tons of paper handouts.

I am currently reading the second book in the Twilight series, called New Moon. In the book the main character, Bella, is in love with Edward who is a vampire. They would do anything for each other and promise to be together forever. But one day Edward is forced to move away from Forks, where they both live, and has to say goodbye to Bella. He tells her that they cannot communicate in any way because it will only make things harder for them. Bella does not belong in the world the way Edward does. Once Edward is gone, Bella can't even function. She can't eat, she can't sleep, she can't even see her friends because she is so miserable without Edward. But even through all her suffering, Bella still has hope that Edward will come back for her one day. She believes even after everything he said, he still loves her and they will be together forever. This reminds me of Nathan in Nectar in a Sieve because he has hope that things for his family will get better even though they have hardly any money or food. If I ever were to be left by someone I loved very much, I think I would try to get on with my life and not wait around for them. To me, that is kind of pointless because if they really did want to be with me, they would try their hardest to and not just leave me.

i read an article on cnn.com about Los Angeles, California sets the scene for 90% of the entertainment industry found in the U.S. Throughout time, people have moved here from their homelands to pursue acting or film careers. Carsten Kurpanek recently moved to LA with his girlfriend in order to start up a film directing career. He found getting jobs was nearly impossible and he had to take an internship that paid him no money. He did however manage to find an apartment that could be paid for by his girlfriends warehouse store job. At the University of Indiana, Joe Misiewicz from the department of communications warns his students of the struggles they may go through to find jobs in the tough entertainment industry. He said about 10-12 make the trek to LA in hopes of finding a good paying job and maybe even being lucky enough to becoming famous. With the huge competition factor, the entertaining business is one of the riskiest businesses out there but if you have hope you can someday achieve your dreams of becoming famous and recognized.

i read an article on cnn.com about Muslims first arriving in America and the ways they had to adjust when arriving here. One women talked about wearing her Muslim dress with a head scarf covering everything but her face. When she reached the Miami Airport, many people stared at her even through security check. One said, "I expected people to say, 'What is this terrorist doing here? We don't want your kind here,' " said Woldt, a 22-year-old blue-eyed Catholic, recalling her anticipation before stepping into a local barbecue joint. "I thought I wouldn't even be served." I think its weird how when someone dresses different or is from somewhere else, they are always looked at like they are a terrorist or what not. Usually they are not. From the quote, you can see that she wasn't treated like one. I think it is just hard for people to adjust and get started in new places. It's hard for everyone, including Muslims, to get accepted into other countries and practice their religion in different cultures.

I read an article on Wikipedia about Muslims. I learned that they are much more religious than Christians are. They have prayer at least 5 times a day, and have rituals/religious gathers throughout the day. Muslims have certain foods they can and cannot eat. Arabic names are now being called ''Muslim" names because they are being passed down from their families. Regardless of their religious beliefs. 99.8% of Turkey is Muslim, however one can accept Muslim aspects without accepting all of the Islamic theology. This is unlike the Western part of the world because they base statics on the religion as a whole that a person follows. As you can see, Muslim culture and Christian culture differ in many ways.

I read an article called "Remote and Struggling, but Still a Bit of America" I found out a lot about present day Alaskans and how they live. I did not realize that Alaskans still live in little huts and hunt for all their meals, i thought they had developed more then that. "Past a fish camp at the river bank, where caught salmon are cleaned and smoked, with carcasses saved for mush dogs. Past the boat he uses to travel hundreds of miles in search of moose and bear and caribou. Past small ducks that he says make for good soup." Can you imagine almost all of your meals you have to hunt, kill, cook, and eat? People would be a lot less busy with sports and homework. Everyday people have there own little struggles like not having food on the table, but there is always a way to over come them you just have to try. Like in Alaska they have many elements against them while there doing there daily routines, but it doesn't mean that there wont be food it just might take longer and there might be less time to do a fun activity.

All over the United States, horrible ice storms have been occurring leaving cities covered in sheets of ice from the ground up. These ice storms took places in cities all over from Texas all the way to Maine. 17 people have died and millions of people were left powerless in the cold winter with ice keeping them stuck inside. Not only did this storm bring a ton of ice, but alot of snow as well with 10-17 inches in some places of the U.S. With being able to drive being put at a standstill, cities everywhere became deserted with the inability to drive because of the icy roads. Weather is a huge factor of life and can make or break many situations. Storms can be deadly and or destructive leaving people sad and in trouble.

Today I'm blogging about Obama's inauguration as the new president of the United States. First of all, there were over 3000 police and secret service agents protecting him. This police force was not only for the president but also for all the other important guests like Aretha Franklin, Beyonce, Jimmy Carter, George Bush and many others. Secondly, there were probably about 5 million people crowded around the Washington Memorial to be apart of Barack's inauguration. It said on the news that 99% of the people wont be able to see or hear anything it's just the fact that they got to be somewhat apart of it that makes them feel it's worth it.

I read an article called Key to fighting colds: Bond with your pillow, no author listed. This article was about how sleep effects one getting a cold. Sheldon Cohen said, "The longer you sleep, the better off you are, the less susceptible you are to colds". So the more hours of sleep you get, the lower the chance of catching a cold. Researchers paid healthy adults $800 to have cold viruses sprayed up their noses and wait in a hotel for five days to see if they got sick. The eight hour sleepers were much less likely to get sick than those who slept for less that seven hours. Also, people who slept less than seven hours a night in the weeks before they became exposed to the virus, were three time likely to catch a cold that the ones who slept longer. Overall, one should get sleep to avoid becoming sick.

i read an article on cnn.com called 'Men Stoned to Death For Adultery, Murder in Iran'. In this article it talked about how before it was banned, in Iran they would stone people to death. They would bury the person in a hole up to their neck so they couldn't get out then they would allow stones that are "large enough to cause pain, but not so large as to kill the victim immediately" to be thrown until they die which increases the suffering and time of the death. This was used as a punishment for many crimes, it talked about it being used after the ban was set two men were stoned to death and a third one escaped his hole and is waiting for his punishment. In the past it was more common for women to be stoned because of their level of illiteracy they would sign confessions to crimes they did not commit because they could not read it.

I read an article on Kare11.com titled "Bus Driver Pulls Knife on Students." The story is said that a bus driver noticed his bus was full of crumbs, garbage and such. This was in Texas and the bus driver supposively pulled his pocket knife out against three kids. The kids were in sixth grade. To the bus drivers knowledge, these kids left cookie crumbs and messed up his bus. The bus driver is 66 years old and was fired since he had been put on administrative leave. I dont get why a bus driver would ever do such a thing, when someone becomes a bus driver its because they enjoy being around kids, still aware that things will get out of line. No kid should ever be put in this situation, especially for a problem such as cookie crumbs being left on the school bus floor.

I read an article on cnn.com called "Actors' son Jett Travolta dies at 16". On friday January 2nd, Jett Travolta, John Travolta's 16 year old son, passed away in the Bahamas. He had a seizure and hit his head but the exact cause of death is still unknown because his autopsy hasn't yet taken place. Jett Travolta suffered from a disease called Kawasaki disease that has caused him to have seizures throughout his lifetime. There is no known cause of this disease and it affects the blood vessels. Usually its only found in children ages 2-5. Since the Travolta's were regular customers of the West End resort, they were close to the owners and workers. The resort was very sad about the news of his death and many were effected.

OUTSIDE READING #22

I read an article on cnn.com called "'Marley' on top for second straight week". For the first few days of 2009 movie sales are already sky rocketing. The new family flick Marley and Me has pulled in $106.5 million dollars. Many other movies came somewhat close but none of them pasted the $100 million dollar mark except for Marley and Me. The others were The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Valkyrie and Bedtime Stories. Bedtime Stories produced about $85 million even though critics bashed the movie and gave it horrible reviews. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button made $80 million dollars which is good for the producers because it was a very expensive movie to create. Valkyrie produced $60.7 million dollars so far which is surprising because it was very unknown before it came out in theaters.
